Zelda Ocarina of Time Debug Rom and Beta Stuff | | parent?>' href='/collections/show'> Offline | Posted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:17 am Some people may already know this, but on the internet somewhere, there is an N64 rom for the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Master Quest. Apparently, it is actually a leaked version of the debug rom for OoT. Anyway, I checked it out a long time ago, and I found loads of beta (content not available in the released version under normal circumstances) rooms and special features hidden in the rom. I thought I'd share some screenshots here: There's a map select screen, where you can access all maps and cutscenes in the game. Here's an alternative Dark Link battle room, with no visible entrances or exits. This is a beta Stalfos boss battle room, with a door that doesn't work. This is another Stalfos room, called 'Middle Boss Room' Here, there are loads of chests where you can get every single item in the entire game (except quest items). There are doors that function, but you can just walk through them for some reason. This is a basic physics test area where common things like running, jumping, and swimming moves can be tested. There are also non-functioning ladders and holes in this room. In this same room, there is a beta Ocarina Pedestal which doesn't appear to do anything. This is another test room, called 'bamboo test' for some reason. The different colors on the ground represent different terrains and sound different when stepped on. In the first screenshot, there's a floating pot, and if Link touches it, he gets damaged, so it's probably a glitched posessed pot that's frozen and doesn't smash. Also, there appears to the the letters 'SRD' on the ground. Those are probably the initials of one of the creators. (Or 'Senior Research and Development'. Thanks Meta Fish, I didn't think of that.) Another beta room, but this time, I've placed a beta monster in it, called an Arwing (probably from Star Fox, but I don't know why there is data for it in this game). Aside from beta rooms, there are also other functions, like the camera tool, where you can freely move the camera and even make your own cutscenes: It is also possible to pause cutscenes and control Link during that time. Here, I've paused Zelda's Light Arrow cutscene and placed a bomb in front of Link, making it look like Zelda's attacking him: There are also other functions like audio debug and variable editors, too but I haven't got screenshots of them yet. On another topic, people always wanted to know about there being a Triforce quest in OoT or not. I can say that so far, I haven't found anything regarding that. On youtube, there are videos of Link walking up to the Triforce in the Sacred Realm, but it's probably a faked video where someone paused the Triforce cutscene and just recorded Link walking in the cutscene. Anyway, what do you think? Using the debug rom, is it possible to finally know the truth behind the Triforce rumors? |

| Posted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 3:23 am Debug stuff is always fun to look at. I'm not sure why the Arwing is there, but it's funny. I would imagine 'SRD' stands for 'Senior (?) Research Development' or something. |

| Posted: Mon Sep 01, 2008 6:40 am Thanks for the pause lag code, that was really useful. I've managed to use all of the debugging features but the memory editor. for some reason, it won't work on my rom. Does it work on yours? I've also got some codes that replace Link's jump attack: Back/forth slash 813F4442 2880 Jump stab 813F4442 2CC0 Jump strike 813F4442 2A60 Super Smas Brothers spin attack 813F4442 29C0 Don't use more than one at once, though... |

| I've been having some odd trouble I can't figure out with the textures. The only areas I've found so far that display correctly are areas with a 2D image as the background (basically the various areas of Castle Town and the Temple of Time Exterior), and for some reason most of the Graveyard. Here's Hyrule Field: The Temple of Time: And this is one of the weirder things it's done. This is the wall in the treasure box room: Any ideas on why it's doing that and how to fix it? Other Screenshots: Graveyard (Standing on the glitched fence. The rest of the Graveyard displays perfectly until I go into the Shadow Temple entrance cavern thing) Lake Hylia Desert Colossus |

| parent?>' href='/collections/show'> Offline | Posted: Wed Sep 03, 2008 8:49 am Yeah, you need to download Zelda Edit.exe (I got mine from Zelda's Secret Ocarina, but that site appears to have disappeared). The program fixes the texture problems and translates the Japanese in the map select into English. |

| Posted: Wed Sep 03, 2008 7:05 pm Yeah, I was directed to that and it works great. Now the only problem I'm having is that the button combo that's supposed to bring up the level select doesn't work, so I have to reset every time, but that's not so bad. I've been playing around with all sorts of impossible screenshots. It's funny how the game will reconcile conflicts, like when it forces adult Link to bend his knees in order for someone to give him something that was meant for young Link, like the Fairy Ocarina or any of the Spiritual Stones. Well, not any. I haven't tried fighting Barinade with no Boomerang yet. |

Wasn't the arwing in to test Z-Targeting? I'm pretty sure if it was solely for that, they wouldn't have put so much effort into it's programing. I recal hearing it was to be a miniboss but it's never been discussed with Nintendo so... The guide I've been reading says that it may not work sometimes, but it never works for me. But like I said, it's not really a big deal. |
